I’m beginning to become my desk, chained here like a third year approaching way too many deadlines. Oh hang on I am a third year approaching way too many deadlines. So as I sit here writing about clubs I’d rather be dancing in than analysing I can only console myself with a decent soundtrack – and the thought of a birthday boogie at Audio come March. but more of that later. Right now I’m staying sane, enjoying my word count denial and finding Bowie in Trade and Beardsley in Fruit by listening to Neal Lewis‘ excellent new podcast for Brighton’s near legendary Schtumm! If I shut my eyes I can see the bouncing boys. Oh for a dance.
Schtumm! is a Brighton based club night running since 2007. With humble beginnings in restaurant basements playing host to secret guests like Radioslave, Richard Norris, Cagedbaby and Pete Herbert in the early days, the night grew into bigger spaces and has since brought acts including Eats Everything, Maya Jane Coles, David August, Cajmere, Jamie Jones, Danny Daze, Art Department, Mulletover, PBR Streetgang, Luca C, Ali Love, Tensnake, Kris Menace, Deepgrove and Danton Eeprom to Brighton. The podcasts are a monthly mix by resident Neal Schtumm! and guests. They are, as the missus would say, bloody marvellous.
