Wildblood and Queenie’s August Wonders – Jamie Jones, HiFi Sean, Soma, Hott 22, Chocolate Puma, The Off Key Hat

Here we go then people, Brighton Pride weekend is here. Here’s to the wondrous basslines accompanying our finest moments and soundtracking those grin-fuelled memories. Are you ready for the audio onslaught?

Queenie’s sound sensation this month comes courtesy of Agnès presents Cavalier and the deep dubby minimal techno of ‘A Million Horses’ on Drumpoet Community. It will leave echoes on your soul after just one play. As will the tweaked trip hop beats of Astro Raph
’An Alchemists Arsenal’ on Cold Busted. If you want it 80s sonic The Off Key Hat and their debut album ‘Dangerous Machine’ on ISM Recordings will deliver. A moment of Casio wet dream electrofunk genius, this is the type of stylishly innocent electronica we love.

The Fantastics’ newie ‘All The People’ on Freestyle Records delivers a soulful edge to summer with their progressive soul-jazz, blues, Latin, funk & fusion. Beach life was made for albums like this. Two disco stunners this way come courtesy of Tom Moulton’s remix collection ‘Philly Re-Grooved 2’ and ‘Mixology – The Definitive Salsoul Mixes’ both on the Harmless label. The phrase “your disco needs this” is an understatement. Inspiring and wonderful both albums remind us what is so defining about disco, then and now. And if its house you want then head towards the exquisite House Masters Chocolate Puma on Defected. Their genre defining house music is tasty as hell and destined to soundtrack this months must-do Pride celebrations.

Finally our August addictions. First up the sensational ‘Soma Records 20 Years’. A label that has defined how electronic music is made, this compilation reminds us of their true greatness from Silicone Soul to Slam via a Mothership Reconnection. And finally it’s all about Jamie Jones and his mix ‘Jamie Jones: Fabric 59’. If his frequency twisting doesn’t impress you you’d best check for a pulse. A slice of unique. Enjoy. Have a safe and grin filled Pride x
