Wildblood + Queenie’s Gscene July Wonders – Jackathon, Lee Curtiss, CJ Mackintosh, Tobias, Vitalik, Tensnake, Shapeshifters + Horse Meat Disco

Well here we go, non-stop hot summer days and steamy summer nights. And before you worry we’ve swallowed a Grease DVD, don’t fret, we’re just a little over excited. The thing us Brits call summer is finally here, beach days and lazy garden days, house parties and festivals, gigs and love. ‘Till autumn comes calling.

First up we still can’t get enough of ‘Horse Meat Disco III’on Strut Records. Just as we said in June. They littered their recent Audio gig with glittered genius and the compilation captures that. Long may they shimmy! Also bringing shine to our lives this month is the wonderful fusion that is Grupo X’s take on all things funk, soul, jazz and boogie on the sparkling ‘As The Hills Go By’ on Loft Recordings UK. Treat yourselves.

At the other end of the musical spectrum is a man called Goldie and as much as we love his various TV adventures its so good to have him back on our soundwaves again. ‘Various FabricLive 58 Goldie’ is a work of wonder, destined to impress those you wanna undress. As is the very decent ‘Nikki Beach in The House Mixed By The Shapeshifters’ on Defected. The house is tech fuelled, the beats underground and the effect essential. Ensure you get tanned with this beauty in the background.

If you need your summer credible and cool then head towards Various Artists ‘We Love Vitalik’
on Vitalik. Sultry and deep one moment, bass bin bouncing the next this compilation will make you many friends as it celebrates all that fabulous about a certain Space on a certain White Isle. Also feeding our house addiction this mouth is the dear beats of Tobias and the gentle genius of his ‘Leaning Over Backwards’ on Ostgut Tun, the welcome history lesson that is ‘Nervous House 20’ Mixed by CJ Mackintosh on Nervous Records (has it really been 20 years already?) and the jacking rollercoaster funk and tech beats of ‘Heidi presents The Jackathon’ on Get Physical. Words fail us – we just wanna dance.

And this month’s simply must have, must dance, must love? It has to be Lee Curtiss ‘Watergate 08’ on the Watergate label. Don’t let the bird of beauty on the artwork fool you. This is Berlin via Detroit slice of underground techno will secure you endless days and nights of delight with its soul and deep, deep funk infused beats. A true summer wonder. Enjoy!
