Queenie & Wildblood’s May Wonders

So here we go. Sun, sea and sound ventures. Yes we think its safe to say the summer season can finally begin. Let no rain put asunder! Fuelling May with a bang is Jackmaster’s ‘FABRICLIVE 57’ on Fabric Records. A 70 minute collection of frantic disco, Detroit techno classics and the orphaned children of garage, dubstep and grime, this is party all night long. Raw yet cultured this don’t need a crowd to have a party. Neither does the rock edged bass-heavy stomp fest that is Dirty Vegas’ ‘Electric Love’ on Om Records. If you put naughty boys in charge of the boom box this is what you get. Magic.

Hit the other end of the electronica scale and you get Anders Trentemøller. His compilation for ‘Late Night Tales’ is the kind of innovation that demands respect as he weaves a tale of mournful beauty and heavenly connections. This Mortal Coli and Shangri-Las’ on one mix. Only Andres, Only ‘Late Night Tales’. Beauty addicts will a mineral rich diet. Secret Cinema’s ‘Minerals’ on Gem Records has more punch than Berocca. This is tech-house and techno, but on a really good day. Stunning. Also worth checking out is local DJ Lee Garrett. He’s a rare gem of a warm-up DJ who understands his job; ensuring the crowd feel it, subtle like, from the moment Floorplay’s doors open. Find him on Facebook and, more importantly, a dancefloor near you.

As for you disco darlings we’d sequin-edly recommend the genius that is ‘Philly Re-Grooved 2: The Tom Moulton Remixes’ on Harmless. Tagging your album “The Master Returns” is confidence indeed but one listen of this golden 70’s disco remix compilation and you get the by-line. Moulton is the master of all he disco dallies with.

Defected continue to deliver masterful to be in love compilations this month and aptly make it into our favourite May Wonders. ‘Zouk Classics – Celebrating 20 Years Of Music’ is hotter than a high day in June with it’s vocal heavy, house hitting wonders whilst ‘Blaze House Masters’ is a must hit summer destination for any house head. To understand the moves of house, you need to understand the roots of house, Blaze’s kinda house. Get acquainted. And finally for those who like to jack it has to be the immensely impressive ‘Palace’ from Circo Loco resident DJ Wild. It’s everything we love about house in one regal package. Deep, jacking, bass heavy, Latin and lush. You’d best check in.
