Wildblood & Queenie’s Wonders April 2011

Well can we say about the month of April that hasn’t already been said? Hopefully the sun will be blazing, your hearts will be racing and the summer season will be off to a magic start. Hopefully. So if you’re braving the seafront in your Havana’s you’ll need a decent soundtrack. Let us provide.

If you want to loud it has to be Stanton Warriors who debut this month with ‘The Warriors’ on Punks. It’s just as you’d expect. Perfect noise full of house, dub-step and rocked out beats. Beat-licious. As is the brilliant UMEK who does his forward thinking electronica thing for ‘UMEK Toolroom Knights’ on Toolroom Records. It’s the kind of house your mother warned you about. Steady now ladies. If you do Berlin, you do techno and no one combines the two finer than System 7 as they display their finer underbelly on ‘Up’. One for the dreamy techno heads out there.

Seventh heaven beckons courtesy of Pearson Sound/ Ramadanman‘s fabulous mix for ‘FABRICLIVE 56’. They don’t call Joy Orbison joy for nothing. It’s the kind of album your neighbours will hate, therefore ensuring it the perfect seal of approval. Various Artists come up trumps again this month (god they are busy souls aren’t they?) with the exquisite inter-galactic house of ‘Hot Waves’ on Hot Waves. Producers Jamie Jones and Lee Foss gather house, disco and techno to deliver a shimmer rarely felt in electronica.

Finally those tunes putting a bounce into our April adventures. For the disco queens it has to be the ‘M+M Mixes Vol. 2’ by John Morales on BBE Records, a collection of funk-fuelled strung-out rarities with more style than Moss in McQueen. For the house heads it has to be Steve Bug’s compiled ‘Forward To The Past’ on Poker Flat, which combines old school Chicago house respectability with Noughties credibility to immense dance floor effect. And for you achingly cool wonders? Look no further than The Revenge ‘ReekinStructions’ on ZRecords. Never has the edit been in finer hands. This is a press play, over and over. The perfect purchase. Happy bouncing.
