Just what makes your DJ tick? What tunes did those headphone-wearing lovelies listen to way back when? Here at GScene we thought it was time to find out. Hence the desert island. No palm trees, just decent tunes. This month we have a double Desert Island treat for you, DJ’s Jamie Hammond and
Jamie’s Top 5
1. Iio ‘Rapture’ (Original Mix) Universal Records
This was one of the tunes that stood out for me whilst growing up. The vocals are just amazing & it’s just so catchy. A true classic.
2. Michael Woods ‘I Said’ (Original Mix) Hauswerks
I’m a big fan of Michael Woods driving, progressive and synth filled sounds and this is no exception. It makes me feel energized!
3. Dirty Old Ann ‘Turn Me On’ (Phunk Mob Mix) Loaded Records
That beat!! When electro was electro you couldn’t get any better than this. Those sexy vocals and dirty beat always got me feeling happy & a little dirty!
4. Moguai ‘Oyster’ (Michael Woods Mix) Mau5strap Recordings
It’s quite a dark track, but once again it’s Michael Woods that makes it something that I absolutely adore.
5. Swedish House Mafia feat Pharrell ‘One’ (Original) Virgin
Such a tune! When you hear the roll on the build up it gets you so excited. It’s different to everything else (or was) and house music needed something like that.
Zack’s Top 5
1: J. Velarde, Luque & Vitti ‘Sundays At Heaven’ (Original Mix) Tommy Boy
Heard this track courtesy of Steve Pitron’s and again at Wild Fruit at Brighton Pride ’09. It’s a classic, the lyrics & beat perfect and it hits that feel good spot every time.
2: Dick Ray ‘Love Stimulation’ (Original Mix) Blanco Y Negro
Not sure if euphoric is the right word to describe this track but there’s something special about it’s build up and arrangement that just gets into you.
3: DJ Pimp ‘Spin Your Jet’ (Main Vox Mix) Distar
I instantly fell in love with it when I first heard it at Matinee, London ’09, the repetitive & punchy beat gets me every time and I love the samples of Groovejet.
4: Deux ‘Fight Again’ (Original Mix) Blanco Y Negro
Always a crowd pleaser, everyone knows what it is from the first instance, gets the fists in the air and then the bass drops! AMAZING! It brings back memories of Supermartxe, Ibiza last summer.
5: DJ Suri, Markus dB, Ivan Gomez feat Soraya Naoyin ‘Looking For Love’ (Original Mix) GT2
A new track for 2011 but to me it’s that good that it has to be in my top 5! The way it starts to the build up then to the drop, love it! Played at a recent gig for first time and could feel the physical emotion to this track, one I will be playing a lot this year.
