Desert Island Disco with DJ Brad Dykes

Just what makes your DJ tick? What tunes did those headphone-wearing lovelies listen to way back when? At GScene we thought it was time to find out. Hence the desert island. No palm trees, just decent tunes. This month it’s the turn of new boy on the block, Brad Dykes. Never has one so cute played tunes so fine.

1. Cassie Ventura ft Lil Wayne ‘Official Girl’
The only girl I’d tip the velvet of, Cassie’s hot! I love the words but I hate the spaghetti strap top in the video and struggle with Lil Wayne being cast as the unofficial BF, but, hey, its my No. 1.
2. Mis-teeq ‘Scandalous’
The most underrated girl band of our time. I expected better things from Alesha’s solo career and I’m still awaiting that long over due aggressive rap aimed at Javine for stealing her husband.
3. Willow Smith ft Nicki Minaj ‘Whip My Hair’
Never though I’d be playing a song this early in my career by someone I could have realistically fathered.
4. Dane Bowers & Victoria Beckham ‘Out Of Your Mind’
Thought without the other four Spices people would realise Vicky couldn’t sing and they did especially with the help of the not so handsome one from Another Level. But having said that this is still one of my faves and I have no qualms about slipping this into a serious garage set.
5. Sean Kingston ft Nicki Minaj ‘Letting Go (Dutty Love)
I struggle with the idea of dutty love with Mr. Kingston, but Nicki more than makes up for it. Good rap, a Get Some favourite that everyone wants to grind to.
6. Jessie J. Do It Like A Dude (Jakwob Remix)
Not one of my ultimate favourite, but I supported at her gig, *name dropping* with the Milkteeth crew. If you thought this dyke favourite couldn’t get any dirtier, think again thanks to Jakwob.
7. Dead Prez ‘Hip Hop’
One to grab your junk to, old skool hip-hop at its best. Not usually a favourite with the gays, but if I want to hear it its going on, that’s final.
8. Destiny’s Child ‘Bug A Boo’
Amazing lyrics from these three funny lasses. But take heed of the video, not even Beyonce can get away with a cowboy hat.
9. Frankee ‘F.U.R.B.’
Great break up song, if I ever needed one. Can’t understand why she was only a one hit wonder as this beats her ex Eamon’s song hands down, even if she stole the tune and raps about getting crabs.
10. Far East Movement ‘Like A G6’
Really don’t know if you can class it as singing, nevertheless it’s amazing. I love watching drunken interpretations of sexy dancing to a song about a plane.

Catch Brad at Jailbait, Mondays at life, GET SOME, Thursdays at Charles Street and GET SOME, Fridays at The Edge, Southampton. Plus he’s going to be supporting Jessie J again in summer, so take this as your invitation.
